First phase of the Gelon ski resort to launch in 2027
In the first months of 2026, Kashkadarya Region welcomed 2.5 million tourists; 500,000 of them visited the mountain village of Gelon.
On October 22, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that the first phase of the international Gelon ski resort in Shakhrisabz District is planned to open in 2027. The project is being implemented with the participation of Russian investors, including those from Tatarstan. Its preliminary cost is $300 million.
Within a month, responsible officials must prepare a general plan for the tourist development of six villages, including Gelon. Starting from March 1, 2027, the implementation of tourism projects in these settlements, with a total cost of $50 million, is planned.
According to the project presentation given in June 2026, the resort plans to construct approximately 100 km of ski slopes and 23 km of cableways. Upon full completion, the complex is expected to accommodate up to 13,000 tourists simultaneously.
