Spotify Removes Over 50 Million AI-Generated Tracks from Recommendations

All of this occurred only in 2026

During filtering, the service considers listener reactions, their feedback, metadata, upload characteristics, and results from several third-party AI detectors. This set of criteria is necessary due to the limitations of recognition technologies: the system also monitors mass uploads, duplicates, SEO manipulations, playlist spam networks, and overly short compositions.

For AI artists, Spotify uses the AI Persona label. Such profiles are excluded by default from editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless a user is specifically subscribed to them. Musicians can also indicate the use of artificial intelligence, and listeners will see this information in the Song Credits section of the mobile app.

By the end of the year, Spotify plans to make Artist Profile Protection available to all artists. The tool will allow verifying releases linked to a profile and controlling the appearance of incorrectly associated publications.
