Uzbekistan Announces Launch of Google Pay

The entry of the payment service into the Uzbek market was announced by Marcin Krasuski, who oversees Google Cloud's engagement with government authorities and public policy issues in Central and Eastern European countries. During his speech, he used both names for the platform—GPay and Google Pay.

The possibility of launching Google Pay and Apple Pay in Uzbekistan was discussed as early as this summer. At the end of July, Jamshid Usmanov, head of the Payment Systems Development Department at the Central Bank, stated that international services could become available to users in the coming months. By that time, the regulator, commercial banks, and national payment systems Humo and Uzcard were already collaborating with Apple and Google on the implementation of new payment methods, including the preparation of the necessary technical infrastructure.
