BMW has launched the production of sixth-generation batteries in Shenyang. The facility is designed for the mass manufacturing of large cylindrical cells, and the company now produces all three main components of this generation’s electrical system in China.
Tests of the new BMW i3 demonstrated a range of 1,213 km without recharging under normal road conditions. At the end of the route, the 113.4 kWh battery retained 1% of its energy.
The batteries feature an 800 V high-voltage architecture. Additionally, BMW aims to more closely integrate battery cells and powertrain components.
