Uzbekistan to abolish Cinematography Agency and transform 'Uzbekfilm'
Film production is planned to be transferred to the private sector.

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced a transition to a new system in which the functions of managing the film industry, its financing, and film production will be separated.
The Cinematography Agency will be abolished, and the authority to implement state policy in the film sector will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture. Within its structure, a Department of Cinematography will be established, with the status of its head equated to that of a deputy minister.
Instead of the state institution 'Uzbekfilm,' a National Film Company 'Uzbekfilm' will be created. It will be responsible for selecting and financing projects, promoting and distributing films, as well as their release on international markets and film festivals. Meanwhile, film production will be fully transferred to the private sector.
