Uzbekistan to expand geological exploration and gas infrastructure
Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed plans for the development of the oil and gas sector, including measures to increase natural gas reserves and production. Details were provided by the press service of the president.
In 2026, the country plans to significantly expand 3D seismic exploration, with its volume set to increase fivefold compared to last year. Since the beginning of the year, specialists have discovered five new gas fields and drilled 80 wells. Some of these reach depths of six thousand meters or more. By the end of the fourth quarter, an additional 40 wells are planned to be drilled.
Among the promising directions is the development of new fields and deep strata in the Ustyurt region. Projects involving foreign partners are underway there, focusing on drilling wells and enhancing the output of existing gas facilities.
The meeting also presented plans for the development of the gas transportation system. These include the construction of main gas pipelines and the modernization of compressor stations. According to calculations, these measures will improve supply reliability and allow annual savings of up to 125 million cubic meters of gas.
Separately, the progress of the accident response at the "25 Years of Independence" field was discussed. A specialized company from China has been engaged for the operation. Necessary machinery and equipment are being delivered to the site, and platforms for drilling wells are being prepared.
The results of the modernization of the Fergana Oil Refinery were also reviewed. Following the repair of key units, the production of diesel fuel increased by 30%, bitumen by 60%, and aviation kerosene fivefold. By the end of the year, the plant is expected to operate at 65% capacity, up from the current 40%.
