Pakistani WaterCon to Establish 500-Hectare Olive Plantation in Jizzakh Region
Pakistani company WaterCon plans to implement an investment project to establish a 500-hectare olive plantation in the Yangiabad district of Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh region. A corresponding memorandum of understanding was signed between the company and the khokimiyat (governor’s office) of the Jizzakh region. This was reported by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Pakistan.
The business mission of the WaterCon delegation to Uzbekistan was organized at the initiative of the diplomatic mission. During the visit, opportunities for implementing joint projects with the company’s participation were discussed, as well as issues of attracting foreign investments into promising regional projects.
The delegation held meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the khokimiyat of the Jizzakh region.
The negotiations addressed prospects for introducing modern agricultural technologies in Uzbekistan, as well as implementing investment projects in the cultivation and processing of agricultural products.
According to the memorandum, a 500-hectare olive plantation is planned to be created in the Yangiabad district, along with the establishment of olive cultivation, processing, and the production of finished goods.
As reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, WaterCon representatives reviewed the results of a preliminary technical assessment of the 500-hectare site in the Yangiabad district. The company proposed selecting olive varieties suitable for local conditions, introducing modern irrigation technologies, and creating processing facilities.
Subsequent stages of the project include industrial processing of olives, packaging of finished products, and exporting high value-added goods to foreign markets under the 'Made in Uzbekistan' brand.
Going forward, the technical and organizational aspects of the project will be worked out in detail, the possibilities for land and water supply will be clarified, and an investment proposal will be prepared. Additionally, pre-project work is planned, and a working group will be formed to establish the plantation and necessary infrastructure.
