Toho Unveils Trailer for Film 'Godzilla: Minus Zero'
Japanese Toho has released the trailer for the sequel 'Godzilla: Minus One.' The film is set in post-war Japan in 1949, with Godzilla himself heading toward New York.

The new film continues the story of 'Godzilla: Minus One,' which was released in 2023. The events of the sequel unfold two years after the first installment—in Japan in 1949, a country recovering from the aftermath of war. 'Godzilla: Minus Zero' became the first Japanese film shot specifically for IMAX.
In the sequel, Godzilla's story will extend beyond Japan: New York will appear in the plot. Takashi Yamazaki returned as director. A Digital Trends film critic who viewed the movie before its premiere compared it to well-known sequels such as 'Terminator 2' and 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.'
According to the critic, the new installment has made the franchise grander and bolder while maintaining its focus on human stories. The film continues the themes of the first movie and explores fear, hatred, and trauma that remain after war.
The first 'Godzilla: Minus One' grossed nearly 114 million dollars in international box office with a budget of 15 million dollars. It won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects and became the first non-English-language film to receive this award. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 99% positive critic rating and 98% audience approval.
The worldwide premiere of 'Godzilla: Minus Zero' took place on September 26, 2026, and the film was released in Japanese theaters on November 3.
