El Niño threatens 347 million children in 100 countries
UNICEF warns that the natural phenomenon will worsen access to water, food, and medical care for millions of families in the coming months.

According to the United Nations Children's Fund, abnormal weather conditions caused by El Niño could lead to floods, droughts, and epidemics in 100 countries. The highest risk is forecast for October–December 2026.
Regions facing extreme heat, drinking water shortages, and the threat of famine will be at greatest risk. Currently, 1.1 billion children worldwide live in conditions of high risk from natural disasters. El Niño will also intensify forced migration and the spread of infectious diseases.
In Chile, record rainfall has caused the Atacama Desert to bloom—a rare phenomenon, but experts describe it as a sign of global climate instability. UNICEF urges governments to strengthen measures to protect vulnerable populations.
