Microsoft has launched the XP division, which will develop gaming franchises beyond video games—into cinema, television, merchandise, and live events.
The division will be led by Kailin Walters, who previously headed Mojang Studios. XP will include four segments: Xbox Pictures (films and series), Xbox Products (fan merchandise), Xbox Places (events and attractions), and Xbox Partnership (brand collaborations).
Sales of *Minecraft* have exceeded 425 million copies. Microsoft plans to leverage its experience with this game for other franchises, including films and attractions in theme parks.
