Blogger GameRig purchased a Samsung Galaxy A90 5G with a damaged screen for $30 and decided to use its internal components to create a mini-PC. The project demonstrates how an old smartphone can be repurposed for new tasks, though such modifications require caution.

The system is based on the Snapdragon 855 processor, which retained sufficient performance to operate in this unusual format. The blogger utilized Samsung DeX mode, which allows compatible Galaxy devices to connect to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, transforming the smartphone into a desktop computer interface.

Before assembly, the author checked the phone's functionality, then separated it into the system board, power board, and battery. A custom case was designed for these components and 3D-printed.

Inside the 0.7-liter case, the system board, power source, battery, stock cooling system, and a USB hub were installed. A separate power button was also added to avoid launching the mini-PC in the usual way through the smartphone's body.

After the modification, the system managed to run Minecraft at over 400 frames per second. However, the design sparked debate: the absence of air circulation holes could lead to overheating, and users deemed the placement of the battery in a tight, enclosed space unsafe.

Some discussion participants suggested abandoning the built-in battery in favor of an external power source. Meanwhile, the project description does not specify how long the device operates without being plugged in or whether prolonged temperature tests were conducted.
