According to Jobs, drugs in this group could become one of the most significant achievements in modern medicine. Their potential benefit is linked to reducing obesity, which increases the risk of developing 13 types of cancer.

Reed Jobs heads the venture firm Yosemite, which invests in oncology research. He became interested in cancer studies after his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003.

A study published in JAMA Oncology in 2025 found that those taking GLP-1 drugs had a 17% lower relative risk of developing the studied types of cancer. However, the study does not prove that the drugs directly prevent the disease.

Jobs also acknowledged the presence of side effects, including loss of muscle mass.
