Uzbekistan Harvests 2.6 Million Tonnes of Cotton Using Machinery
As of October 12, machines have harvested around 75% of the 3.4 million tonnes of the crop, with the remainder collected manually.
By October 12, Uzbekistan had harvested 3.4 million tonnes of cotton out of the planned 4.5 million tonnes. Of the total harvest, 2.6 million tonnes were collected through mechanised picking, while another 848,000 tonnes were gathered manually.
Around 3,000 cotton-picking machines are involved in the harvesting campaign. Over 1,000 of these are new equipment provided to farmers and agro-clusters under leasing agreements. The use of machinery accelerates the harvest. For instance, on October 12 alone, 147,000 tonnes of cotton were collected with their help—an average of 50 tonnes per machine.
In areas inaccessible to machinery, cotton continues to be picked manually. On small fields, 674,000 tonnes were collected this way, with another 174,000 tonnes gathered from the edges of fields prepared for mechanised harvesting.
