Number of labor migrants from Uzbekistan halved
Compared to 2016, the number of Uzbek citizens working abroad has halved. At the same time, remittances to their families have quadrupled.

Uzbekistan has expanded cooperation in the field of labor migration to 27 countries. Around 400 major foreign employers have established partnerships with the country's government.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev believes that this trend reflects the growing demand for Uzbek specialists abroad. Foreign employers increasingly see them as skilled employees rather than just labor.
The President has instructed a change in the approach to organizing labor migration so that citizens can find more lucrative jobs and have their rights protected. To this end, coordination among regional administrations (khokimiyats), vocational schools, and Uzbekistan's diplomatic missions abroad is intended to be strengthened.
