Huawei Chips Capture Half of China's AI Market, Nvidia's Share Drops to 8%
At the Huawei Connect conference, it was announced that over four years, the company has displaced Nvidia from its leading position in China's artificial intelligence accelerator market.
In 2022, Huawei's Ascend series chips held just 3% of the Chinese market, while Nvidia controlled 95%. Currently, Ascend chips have reached a 50% share, whereas Nvidia's share has dropped to 8%.
The shift is attributed to U.S. export restrictions, which since 2023 have blocked Chinese companies from accessing Nvidia's high-performance accelerators. Demand for such chips has persisted, allowing Huawei to quickly fill the vacated niche.
