OpenAI reports annual revenue of $50 billion instead of expected $70 billion
The company clarified the data for investors, excluding revenue from cloud partners from the calculations, reports Financial Times.
OpenAI officially presented investors with data on its annualized revenue for September at $50 billion. Previously, sources had estimated this figure at $70 billion, but the company does not include revenue from cloud platforms such as Amazon AWS and Google Cloud in its calculations.
In July, OpenAI's revenue was around $30 billion, rather than the previously reported $40 billion. Over two months, the figure grew by nearly 70%, as a lower base amount was used. The company remains unprofitable and plans to spend up to $280 billion more than it earns by 2030.
OpenAI currently has no plans to go public and intends to remain a private company to adapt to new AI safety requirements.
