Uzbeks reminded of fines for burning leaves and plant residues

The National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change has warned residents of Uzbekistan about the ban on burning plant residues on agricultural lands.

Such violations entail an administrative fine ranging from 3 to 5 basic calculation units (BCUs) for citizens. Additionally, offenders may face compensation for environmental damage, the amount of which depends on the area of the affected land.

The Committee urged farmers, dehkans (peasant farmers), and land users not to burn stubble, dry leaves, branches, shrubs, and other plant residues in the fields. Burning releases toxic compounds into the air, which are hazardous to human health and the environment.

High temperatures also destroy macro- and microelements contained in the soil, thereby reducing its fertility. The agency recommends using plant residues for compost preparation, mulching seedlings, and as livestock feed.
