Carson is the first woman to receive the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry in 2001 and is also a laureate of the Spanish Princess of Asturias Award (2020). Her most famous work, *Autobiography of Red*, is a novel in verse based on the ancient Greek myth of Geryon. In it, the story of a monster transforms into a tale of a teenager experiencing love and coming of age.
This year, the prize has been increased to 12 million Swedish kronor (approximately $1.2 million) in honor of the 125th anniversary of the Nobel Prize. The award ceremony will take place on December 10 in Stockholm.
